Getting from Barbados to Bequia

The island of Bequia is easily reached from N.America & Europe via two of the larger Caribbean islands - Barbados, & St Lucia. For Europeans the smoothest route is via London (LGW) with British Airways & Virgin Atlantic both offering daily direct flights to Barbados. Several charter airlines also operate seasonal weekly flights to Barbados to the UK, Scandinavia & Europe. Condor fly once a week from Frankfurt Intl.

N.America to Barbados (Direct Flights)

American Airlines from New York, Miami & Dallas
US Airways from Charlotte, NC
JetBlue from New York
Air Canada & WestJet from Toronto.

Note: Several US airlines also fly to St. Lucia

Most international flights arriving into Barbados land during the mid-afternoon, we recommend checking the time so as to allow sufficient time for the connectIon. SVG Air & Grenadine Airways serve Bequia with several ‘island-hopping’ flights per day - there are no landing lights on the runway on Bequia so flights must depart Barbados no later than 16:30 in order to land on the island before sunset after which the airport closes.

Flying direct, Barbados - Bequia
Passengers in transit landing in Barbados should proceed to the doors marked ‘Connecting Flights’ - in most cases there will be a Grenadine Airways/SVG Air representative standing in front of the immigration hall with a board full of names, present yourself and you will be escorted to the check-in counter. You will be asked for a description of your luggage to help the handlers identify it (See Tips), afterwards proceed through a security check and make your way directly to gate 9 (located in a separate building) in preparation of boarding for the 45 minute flight.

The aircraft are 18 seat Twin Otters, upon boarding larger carry-ons may be stored in the hold or under the seats at the rear of the aircraft - on arrival to Bequia make sure you pick up all your carry-on luggage.

  1. -Label & tie brightly coloured ribbons to your luggage to help the handlers to identify them.

  2. -In case the incoming flight is late and your luggage does not make it with your flight, pack a few necessary items into your carry-on (sundry items, medication, beachwear, flip flops, a pair of swimming trunks/bikini etc!)

Alternatively consider the regional carrier LIAT flying from Barbados & other Caribbean islands to neighbouring St. Vincent - staying at our sister hotel Grenadine House before taking the 50 min ferry over to Bequia the next day. Flying LIAT also makes it possible to visit two or more islands - connecting Europe from different Caribbean hubs - Antigua, Grenada, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago I.E. flying into one island and home from another.
